Lockhart Surrounding Towns and Villages

Yerong Creek

Lockhart Shire’s oldest village, Yerong Creek,  is located about 56km from the main centre of Lockhart, between Wagga Wagga and Albury on the Olympic Highway.

Originally named Yerong when it was established in the 1870s, the name changed to Yerong Creek when the railway arrived in 1881.

Things to see and do:

• Walk around the historical streets and discover hidden treasures like Noske’s Chinese Crossing west of the village
  
   

The Rock

The Rock town is the eastern gateway to the Lockhart Shire, located about 25km south of Wagga Wagga.

Boasting a wide, park-like main street, The Rock is also home to The Rock Hill a majestic mountain of rock giving the town its name.

Things to see and do:

• Wander around the main streets of The Rock and discover what the town has to offer
• Take time to look at the avenue of kurrajong trees planted after World War 1 in honour of each solder in the district who served his country
• Climb The Rock Hill for amazing views over the landscape
• Visit the Tootool Gardens
  
   

Pleasant Hills

 The village of Pleasant Hills is situated 37km from Lockhart and 85km from Wagga Wagga.

While the village is small its setting of native bush and fertile farmland on rolling hills gives the sense the village is aptly named.

• Visit the community run Pleasant Hills Community Hotel
• Take one of the Lockhart Shire Bird Trails
  
   

Milbrulong

Milbrulong is located about 13km from the main Shire centre of Lockhart and forms part of the Lockhart Shire bird trails.

Milbrulong is derived from the Aboriginal word meaning ‘Rosella parrot’.
